🌲 The Trolls Who Protect My Land
A Norwegian Folklore Story Told From My Heart to Yours
I grew up in Norway, where the mountains are old and the forests are deep, and where every child learns one truth early in life: Trolls protect the land, and the land protects the trolls.
In Norway, trolls are not monsters. They are guardians — ancient, wise, and woven into the very soil. They watch over travelers, animals, and anyone who treats nature with respect. They are the quiet protectors of the wild places.
When I moved from Oslo to northern Arizona, I thought I had left those stories behind. But the land here… it has the same spirit. The same silence. The same feeling that something old is watching over everything.
And so, the trolls followed me.
🌄 How Trolls Came to the High Desert
The trolls traveled across the ocean in the way only trolls can — hidden in the wind, tucked inside stones, carried in the memories of the person who believes in them. When I found this land near the Grand Canyon, I felt them settle in immediately.
They recognized the high cliffs, the deep canyons, the volcanic stones, and the endless sky. To trolls, this place feels like a cousin to Norway’s mountains — carved by time, shaped by storms, and filled with stories.
So they made this land their new home.
🌬️ What Trolls Protect
Trolls are guardians of:
-
The land itself — the soil, the rocks, the trees, the water
-
The animals — elk, ravens, coyotes, pronghorn
-
The people who live here — and the guests who visit with respect
-
The stories — because stories keep the land alive
They hide in the junipers, sleep inside the volcanic stones, and walk the ranch at night when the stars are bright. They are shy, but they are always watching.
If you treat the land kindly, they smile. If you listen to the wind, you might hear them humming. If you leave a small offering — a stone, a pinecone, a little bread — they will protect you on your journey.
🌟 The Trolls of Troll Ranch
The trolls here are different from the ones in Norway, but they carry the same heart.
-
They love the high desert storms.
-
They adore the sunset colors.
-
They laugh when the ravens play tricks.
-
They walk the edges of the Grand Canyon, whispering to the rocks.
And they protect this ranch — fiercely, lovingly, quietly.
Visitors often say they feel something special here. A calm. A warmth. A sense of being welcomed.
That is the trolls.
They watch over every guest who steps onto this land. They make sure people feel safe, grounded, and connected to something ancient.
✨ A Closing Thought
Norwegian folklore teaches that trolls appear wherever someone believes in them. I believe in them. I always have.
And now, they live here — on my land, under this sky, beside the Grand Canyon.
They protect the ranch. They protect the people who visit. And they protect the stories we share.
This is Troll Ranch. A place where Norwegian magic meets Arizona earth. A place watched over by trolls.
